Lost Through Wonders.

This week we had to sit a writing sample test. We were told by our teacher to finish it of and blog our writing sample. Here is my finished product. I hope you like reading my writing sample

I heard scratching but I couldn't see through the darkness...

Nothing but the stars and the moon that shone in the night. Taking each step which we hoped led us to our destination my back aches while holding our supplies which I call our survival kit.
“Ahhh I'm so tired can we stop now?” Cecilia mourns, her eyes which look like they could shut any minute now
“No we must keep going and we’ll be there soon.” I say it with regret knowing that I didn't know my way around here, I just made a promise that was about to be broken.
Lifting up each boot which protected my feet, I look around and there is completely nothing I can see. Nothing but Trees, leaves, rubbish and the sound of birds and owls howling in the dark night. I glimpse around and all I see is a great big field filled with grass ‘Yay!’

We finally decide to stop, we pitch our tent and off we doze with a dreadful sleep. With only our jackets and the picnic cloth to cover us, I could feel the breeze of the wind glide through my clothes and push my skin which was now covered with goosebumps, we close our eyes and off we were in a world of peace and silence.

Being interrupted and woken up by an unusual sound I get up and notice that Cecilia isn't there. I panic, my heart skips a beat and my mind goes on multiple journeys on 5 different planet.
“Cecilia, are you there?” My voice cracks, it sounds as if I were trying to squeal.
9 seconds later there's still no reply so I call out to her again
“Cecilia, are you there?”
15 minutes and she's still not back so I fetched for the torch that hung from the side of my backpack and off I go on a hunt for Cecilia.
‘I hope she's alright’
‘I wonder where she is’
I start to panic even more and now my heart feels like its skipping two beats. My ears lift a little hearing that weird, strange sound again and as every step I take I the noise gets louder and Louder and LOUDER! I heard scratching but couldn't see through the darkness...

I want to look after myself financially, have the money to look after myself and to be able to cook for others. I strongly believe that when our parents are older their children should look after them, pay their bills, cook their food and clean their house, because when we were young they did the same for us...

My Four Walls Of Self

For two weeks my class has learnt about Masion Duri's theory and model about 'Te Whare Tapa Wha'. We were required to come up with our own symbol and use this as a metaphor to describe our four walls of self.

Here is my presentation about my four walls.

My-Self Description.

Talofa Lava and Kia Orana my name is Faith and this is my story about me. I am the eldest child of three, I am a mixture of Samoan, Cook Island and I am proud to be both of these cultures. I see myself as an open and self-independent person when needed, I have respect for my elders and everyone who I know and don’t know. I can be curious when I think something is wrong or something is suspicious because all I want is peace and happiness for all my friends and family. I believe in our heavenly father because if it wasn’t for Him I wouldn’t be here today.

My family are honest and truthful with everything that is good or bad, they own some of the biggest hearts, they are always there for me to lean on and they always they give me brighter day. They are all that I’m grateful to have. My family are also gifted with talent (e.g home chef’s, voices/singers, dancers, culture performers and they can play instruments.) My family has always been there for me and I’m proud to have a family like them. I would say my family is like a tree that keeps on growing and growing and growing.

I come from a community that is made up of Panmure and Glen Innes, and our community is called the Tamaki Community. In our community we are surrounded by loving and caring people who run our community and also take part and bring new things to our community such as fun day, santa parade, library activities, youth town and so much more so that families like mine can join in and participate. I love the community I come from because it is filled with so many things and so many people who are bright with smiles, laughter from children, yawns from hard working people. We might not have the best community in the city but I’m proud to be a part of it.

If I haven’t already told you but I have a lot of interest in where both sides of my family come from. I love hearing the stories of the olden days because it tells me a story of where I come from. The main things that inspire me most is the interest and eager that everyone has in culture dancing (such as the hula), playing musical instruments (island drums, guitar, ukelele...) but one of my favourites are the costumes and quilts that our Mamas/Grandmothers/Aunts/Mothers make by hand, they are the most beautiful pieces of clothing I’ve seen. Also the cooks which I like to call my island chefs in my family that make astonishing dishes, and that is where I think I get my love and passion of wanting to become a head chef.

My hopes for 2013 is to achieve above the standard in everything I do and not let anyone stop me from achieving my goals. I want to finish off my last year at intermediate feeling proud of all my hard work but also to be a good person in myself. This means to be the bright and intelligent girl I want everyone to see, have respect for everyone, be kind and accept everyone for who they are and to always be positive about the future that I have ahead of me. Did I tell you? Well there is a little dark, black and ugly cloud inside of me that I’m scared of and that is my fears. I’m scared that this year that I will lose another loved one, change into someone I don’t want to be, but most of all to let everything I worked for so hard go down the drain.  With positive thinking I know I can achieve the impossible with my learning this year. This is me, Faith!

It Is Good To Save Energy

We can use as much energy as we want but do you notice how much of it we are wasting as every second goes by?

Everyday we all use energy in different types of ways we turn on lights, use cars, do washing etc, but by using all of this we could be looking at a future with no energy left. It will probably cause less damage to our world because at the moment all the greenhouse gases that we are creating like CO2 and methane gas is all getting trapped and is what's making our world more warmer. It is good to save energy because it can help you save more money on paying the power bill. It is also good because it might make you learn from your mistakes in the past and get it right in the future. Did you know that saving energy produces global warming?

Try to turn off the lights or anything else when you’re not using them and make sure that it isn’t on standby because it can still use up energy, block any upper or lower floors so the heat traps in and turn off running taps if you want to save energy. This prevents global warming.

CO2 comes from all that wasted energy that we use day by day which is what warms up the earth, and when the earth warms up and gases get trapped, ice melts and more mammals are becoming extinct. Mammals that live in the ice (Antarctica) will eventually have less ice to live on as the ice melts, and pacific islands will have less land too because of the rising sea levels. In the past our elders/ancestors used to walk to school, work or wherever they wanted to, they washed clothes by hand, played outside and didn’t use as much energy as we do now. Sometimes it makes me think and say why can’t we still do that today? Was it better in the past? Why do we have to use so much power?

So remember saving energy is a good thing which will help our future be sustainable. Remember that it is only YOU that can make that difference.

My Koro Description

Koro.

Our Koro likes to wear his hat through sun and rain, he has a beautiful hair colour - and YES its grey! He loves to wear his shorts, singlets and his boots when it is a beaming sunny day. He has the eyes of a wise man, a smile that beams through the dark and the eyes of a warrior who has been here for us every day.

When we hear ‘Kia Ora!’ We all know that Koro is around.  He greets us like no other, he cheers for us in Kapa Haka and when we are singing the last of the lyrics of the song he always says, ‘Oooh beautiful singing!’ He makes us feel proud of ourselves. He never lets us down but he always reminds us ‘Make sure you pick up our rubbish!’ Before the bell.

Koro likes a lot of things, but he especially loves rugby.  His favourite team is the Chiefs.

He dislikes it when we drop rubbish when he has to pick it up but if we have spare some we help him out by picking up our own rubbish but our school expectation is to put our rubbish in the bin to make all our lives easier .

Koro is an organised man, he is able to maintain his inner strength and he is filled with cheerfulness and his sense of humor that goes a very long way. He is always there to fix whatever is in need and is there to cheer us whenever we have kapa haka. He picks up rubbish around our school, he never ignores us and and that is one thing we like about him.

Koro is special to us because he is always there to help us  in many different ways, he cheers for us, cleans for us and he is not just a caretaker he is an amazing man with a big heart for us all.

Tamaki Primary Academy Awards 2012

Gazing down from the plain classroom window, all I could see was a spectacular scene of  children dressed like millionaires. As if they were going to a formal or a ball. Then the bell rang and we all lined up on the dots.  When we all sat down, I could see all the teachers dressed like beautiful/handsome superstars and the red carpet that laid lifelessly on the rough concrete   leading to the school hall.
Mrs Hansell greeted us all  in an enthusiastic tone. We then  made our way down  to the hall class by class. Now it was finally our turn we all walked down the red carpet with our class, it was cool because it felt like as if we were famous. When entered the hall we all sat down and waited for everybody to be seated. Finally we got welcomed to the Tamaki Primary Academy Awards and started watching all the inspiring movies, that all classes made during the subject of “Movie Magic.”
All the movies were amazing and entertaining to see because it was a time to come together as a school to see all the improvements made and how much we all learnt during “Movie Magic.” When we finished watching all the AWESOME movies it was time for the awards, so each teacher gave awards to their class for script writer, editor, best actor etc.  Everybody took photos with their awards and that was the end of the Tamaki Primary Academy Awards, so our class (room 8) went back to class and got the food prepared for our shared lunch.
Having shared lunch was awesome because it was nice to see us all laughing and reflecting over the day but most importantly seeing that everyone was happy.

The Big Stunt

    The Big Stunt.

I was waiting at the top of the highest ramp at the motor cross dirt track, I was thinking of what stunt I was going to make. When I looked at all my fans screaming at the to of their lungs screaming out my name, I didn’t want to let them down SO.... I was wanting to take the biggest risk and have my name published in news papers “saying that I broke the worlds #01 stunt record of the world”.

Now was the time to make my stunt of my life so I went off and went as fast as lightning flickering at night . I shivered with fear thinking of falling off my motorbike or landing it and making my fans proud, my heart pounded faster and faster as every second of this special moment went past.

I was now finally up in the air going to do a back flip and then an unbelievable super man2000 into the gusty air with her motorbike, I landed with an extraordinarily 50 vertical bunny-hop. The crowd screamed rapidly as if they had seen Micheal Jordan take a slam dunk and made the final goal. YYEAAAAA!!! The screamed and just then I though I was deaf just for a second, listing to the screams witch were extremely loud.

As I came off my motorbike feeling like butterflies were flying in my stomach, knowing how many smiles I put on little children's faces, and knowing how happy I made others as well.

My Beautiful Place

Far beyond the sea of the world is my beautiful place, So if you want to know more about my beautiful place then read through these magical paragraphs carefully.

It was one bright Saturday morning, and as I took a look outside my bedroom window I could see the flow of sand drifting through the cute baby's little fingers, little girls dressed in stunning island costumes, as if they were going to dance at a show and old people walking velvetly with their canes and walking sticks.

I heard my mum calling me from a far distance telling me to get dressed. I took one step outside our house door and I could hear the soft voices of old people talking to each other, the happy laughter of the little ones and mostly, the amazing sound of my grandfather and his 6 brothers strumming the guitar, ukelele and the beat of the island drums playing from the heart. It felt like I was at a festival dancing to the beat of the music with my hula skirt, coco nut shells and a manea (pretty or beautiful) tiare (fragipani type of a pretty flower) in my ear. I could hear the strong mighty voice of my family cheering for me with lots pride.

Then suddenly something had caught the tip of my nose so, I follow the tracks of that smell and it led me to Nana's mammoth house which was down the road and she was cooking my favourite... poke (traditional banana or cabbon bread pudding).

When I entered Nana’s house I felt the smoothness of her tall bright green walls. She saw me with happiness as if she had won the lotto so I gave her a big hug and when I did it felt like a big blanket full of love had reached over me. I felt like a really special person who was loved.

The poke was now ready and when I took spoon full of poke it was as if I was in Heaven. It tasted so wonderfully cooked I wanted to have more. But it was now time for me to go, so I touched Nana’s pretty young face once more and left her with all my love.

Have you guessed what my beautiful place was? Well anyway it was Rarotonga which is one of the 15 islands in the country Cook Islands. This is my beautiful place and I will aways treasure my special time that I had there in my heart, soul and mind.
