Sustainable Ways To Dispose Rubbish At T.P.S

This week we have integrated writing and inquiry together, so we were put into groups and given projects to complete related to our new topic focus 'Rubbish'.
In this task we all had to find out what ways we could make disposing rubbish sustainable.
Here is my idea and also steps on how it may be completed.

Having Colour Coded Bins In Our School

  1. Firstly we will need to find out how much it will coast to buy the types of rubbish bins we need e.g recycling bin-green, paper bin -red. etc.
  2. Then we will also need to find suitable ways to fundraise (if need) the money needed to purchase the rubbish bins that we are most likely to use in our school.
  3. When we have fundraised enough, we will need to order the bins and then find places to place them. In this case I believe that they should be where people seam to litter the most.
  4. Finally, when our bins are placed where we have decided to place them, we should have an announcer who speaks over the speaker reminding/telling the students 5 minutes before the bell rings, to use but also pick up the rubbish around.

Tuakana Teina

During our day being budded up with younger students from room 4, we wrote a poem together about  recycling.
Here is the poem that me and my buddy Adien have written.

Lost Through Wonders.

This week we had to sit a writing sample test. We were told by our teacher to finish it of and blog our writing sample. Here is my finished product. I hope you like reading my writing sample

I heard scratching but I couldn't see through the darkness...

Nothing but the stars and the moon that shone in the night. Taking each step which we hoped led us to our destination my back aches while holding our supplies which I call our survival kit.
“Ahhh I'm so tired can we stop now?” Cecilia mourns, her eyes which look like they could shut any minute now
“No we must keep going and we’ll be there soon.” I say it with regret knowing that I didn't know my way around here, I just made a promise that was about to be broken.
Lifting up each boot which protected my feet, I look around and there is completely nothing I can see. Nothing but Trees, leaves, rubbish and the sound of birds and owls howling in the dark night. I glimpse around and all I see is a great big field filled with grass ‘Yay!’

We finally decide to stop, we pitch our tent and off we doze with a dreadful sleep. With only our jackets and the picnic cloth to cover us, I could feel the breeze of the wind glide through my clothes and push my skin which was now covered with goosebumps, we close our eyes and off we were in a world of peace and silence.

Being interrupted and woken up by an unusual sound I get up and notice that Cecilia isn't there. I panic, my heart skips a beat and my mind goes on multiple journeys on 5 different planet.
“Cecilia, are you there?” My voice cracks, it sounds as if I were trying to squeal.
9 seconds later there's still no reply so I call out to her again
“Cecilia, are you there?”
15 minutes and she's still not back so I fetched for the torch that hung from the side of my backpack and off I go on a hunt for Cecilia.
‘I hope she's alright’
‘I wonder where she is’
I start to panic even more and now my heart feels like its skipping two beats. My ears lift a little hearing that weird, strange sound again and as every step I take I the noise gets louder and Louder and LOUDER! I heard scratching but couldn't see through the darkness...

Meeting Will.I.Am - Reported By Faith and Mavis

Mavis,Taylor,Jayden, and I got the chance to experience another way of  learning with the Manaiakalani. A fantastic piece of news which came to us as "Someone donated some money to the Manaikalani education trust" Well we found out that someone was Mr Will.I.Am
I hope you enjoy reading my awesome experience below
Please leave a comment!!!

Thursday 6 May 2013, was well... the best day of our life!!! I’m not being dramatic or anything but a group of students got the chance to see that Mr.William James Adams, otherwise known as Will.I.Am . He has donated $100,000 to the Manaiakalani Education Trust. We were told at first that it was an anonymous donater but when we arrived we got the news that it was Will.I.Am himself who had donated the money. It was something worth experiencing.

When the cheque was presented we were thankful and honored for his helpful donation towards the Manaiakalani Education Trust. His inspirational words motivated us all as students to keep moving forward in life.

The words that he preached today was "My mission is to help transform disadvantaged youths, and I hope my donation to the Manaiakalani Trust will help these young people gain the skills they need for tomorrow's job market."

We acknowledged that fact the he shared a small portion of his life with us about growing up with  only his mum to raise him and about the fact that music and arts literally saved his life. He told us that his dream was to look after his mother and siblings.

When he told us what his dream was we felt like we could do something with our life. Meeting or hearing him wasn’t just hearing or seeing him as a celebrity but we got to hear and see him as a person who motivated himself to succeed in life.

We came back to school feeling glad we got to be part of something worth remembering, we got to be part of something we could tell our friends with pride and experience.

your heart.
My likes and dislikes... Well to tell the truth I like all the people who dislike me because they show me what NOT to be and that I can be better than them. Number two I LOVE, ADORE and HONOUR our dare Heavenly Father and his son our saviour because they are the the to main people in my life that help me through my ups and downs. My dislikes I don't like small spaces and I am scared of death, and also family DRAMA!

My-Self Description.

Talofa Lava and Kia Orana my name is Faith and this is my story about me. I am the eldest child of three, I am a mixture of Samoan, Cook Island and I am proud to be both of these cultures. I see myself as an open and self-independent person when needed, I have respect for my elders and everyone who I know and don’t know. I can be curious when I think something is wrong or something is suspicious because all I want is peace and happiness for all my friends and family. I believe in our heavenly father because if it wasn’t for Him I wouldn’t be here today.

My family are honest and truthful with everything that is good or bad, they own some of the biggest hearts, they are always there for me to lean on and they always they give me brighter day. They are all that I’m grateful to have. My family are also gifted with talent (e.g home chef’s, voices/singers, dancers, culture performers and they can play instruments.) My family has always been there for me and I’m proud to have a family like them. I would say my family is like a tree that keeps on growing and growing and growing.

I come from a community that is made up of Panmure and Glen Innes, and our community is called the Tamaki Community. In our community we are surrounded by loving and caring people who run our community and also take part and bring new things to our community such as fun day, santa parade, library activities, youth town and so much more so that families like mine can join in and participate. I love the community I come from because it is filled with so many things and so many people who are bright with smiles, laughter from children, yawns from hard working people. We might not have the best community in the city but I’m proud to be a part of it.

If I haven’t already told you but I have a lot of interest in where both sides of my family come from. I love hearing the stories of the olden days because it tells me a story of where I come from. The main things that inspire me most is the interest and eager that everyone has in culture dancing (such as the hula), playing musical instruments (island drums, guitar, ukelele...) but one of my favourites are the costumes and quilts that our Mamas/Grandmothers/Aunts/Mothers make by hand, they are the most beautiful pieces of clothing I’ve seen. Also the cooks which I like to call my island chefs in my family that make astonishing dishes, and that is where I think I get my love and passion of wanting to become a head chef.

My hopes for 2013 is to achieve above the standard in everything I do and not let anyone stop me from achieving my goals. I want to finish off my last year at intermediate feeling proud of all my hard work but also to be a good person in myself. This means to be the bright and intelligent girl I want everyone to see, have respect for everyone, be kind and accept everyone for who they are and to always be positive about the future that I have ahead of me. Did I tell you? Well there is a little dark, black and ugly cloud inside of me that I’m scared of and that is my fears. I’m scared that this year that I will lose another loved one, change into someone I don’t want to be, but most of all to let everything I worked for so hard go down the drain.  With positive thinking I know I can achieve the impossible with my learning this year. This is me, Faith!
